Undergraduate Research Display; Vibration of Plates and Membranes
writer/researcher

The first part of this work outlines the Kirchhoff-Love Theory (KLT) of thin plates and proposes an approximate governing equation for a Chladni plate under KLT (a fourth order inhomogeneous PDE).
In the second part, I consider the classical theory of ideal (perfectly elastic) membranes, and construct solutions of the two-dimensional wave equation for several cases of free vibration, in a cylindrical coordinate basis.
Paper; The Binet Equation and Trajectories in Central Force Fields
writer
In this paper, I begin by deriving the Binet Equation from principles of classical mechanics. I then proceed to consider various spatial trajectories, finding the required central-force law for each trajectory by inserting the specified form into the Binet Equation. Trajectory forms considered include the Keplerian ellipse, Keplerian conic sections undergoing apsidal precession, (various) spirals, hypotrochoids and lemniscates.
